Kent Youth is the largest non-uniformed youth charity in Kent. We work both face-to-face with young people and provide support for more than 175 member youth clubs across Kent. This includes a range of training and support opportunities for adults who work (paid or unpaid) with young people.
Our Vision-
Since 1932, Kent Youth has been working to develop high quality youth work, personal development and educational opportunities for all young people. These are still our aims today, although the way we work with young people has developed considerably and continues to change inline with the needs of today's young people.
Programmes and Activities-
The Togle Project is an exciting project which matches disabled and non-disabled young people so that they may enjoy mainstream leisure, education and personal development opportunities together. It is our aim to include young disabled people in the activities of their choice, giving them access to the same life-enriching opportunities that others take for granted. Recent activities include a regular climbing club, a sponsored walk, trampolining and joining in with youth club activities.
Peer Education gives young people the chance to learn about the issues relevant to their lives and then pass those facts on to their peers. Recent projects have tackled issues surrounding drugs awareness, stress, literacy and numeracy, the environment, teenage pregnancy and sexual health.
The Challenge Team offers exciting adventure based personal development and volunteering opportunities to young people aged 15-21. Recent challenges have included a trek to Nepal to help children in a remote village and activities closer to home such as a 100 mile canoeing marathon.
Kids on the Block is an educational puppet show and workshop which educates young people about disabilities and differences. Visiting schools and youth clubs, the Kids on the Block puppets follow each performance with the opportunity for the audience to participate in an educational workshop. Additional subjects include bullying and social exclusion.
Kent Youth also offers a suport programme to member youth clubs, including a range of inter-club activities, local, regional and national participation opportunities in sports, arts and leisure. The adults who work and volunteer withing these clubs are also supported by a comprehensive range of specially developed information sheets and interactive workshops on subjects such as fundraising and child protection.
